Trip from Freiberg to Annaberg
A good friend advised me to visit Annaberg Christmas Market and take a direct Bus trip from Freiberg thru Bus Line 400. The last trip I had there was short lived due to freezing wet feet. Now armed with the right winter shoes I was eager to explore it one more time and get a view from Sankt Annenkirche.
The bus trip lasted for an hour and a half with multiple stops. I took the 11:30 AM ride and there were only a few passengers. Having free Wifi on the Bus plus cozy music made the ride very pleasant. There's no W.C. or Comfort Room and charging ports so make sure to be ready. You'll see scenic landscapes and historical buildings on the way so having a good camera and steady hands would be a plus.
Whenever I see old houses in Germany I remember the story of the 3 Pigs and the fox as well the those houses they made. These brick houses last for generations. It rarely has earthquake in Germany so these sturdy non-flexible structures are ideal. There are of course a lot of other types built and new designs.
The Annaberg Bus Station is located a few minutes away from the Christmas' Market and Sankt Annenkirche. Although most of the structures nearby are 2 to 5 stories high the tip of Sankt Annenkirche Tower can still be seen from afar.
It was late when I realized that the return trip on the same route Bus Line 400 will leave in an hour. I hurriedly went to Sankt Annenkirche only to find that the door leading to the top of the tower was closed. It was particularly windy that day so it'd be better not to. You can still explore the church and see the sculptures.
The return trip leaves from Post 4 from Annaberg Bus Station. I wasn't sure then so I asked the locals and the information desk to confirm. So Bus Line 400 is a trip back and forth from Annaberg to Dresden with multiples stops including one in Freiberg. What a treat.
